Advent

  • Advent is a season in the Church calendar dedicated to the hopeful anticipation for the arrival or "advent" of Jesus of Nazareth. During the four-week period leading up to Christmas, many Advent observers engage in prayer, meditation, and Scripture study that emphasizes hope, peace, love, and joy to focus on the hope-filled arrival of Jesus.

  • We focus on four topics—hope, peace, love, and joy—one for each week leading up to Christmas. We light Advent candles during church services and read specific Scriptures each day. We encourage you to celebrate Advent with us or your family this year!

  • Lighting candles during Advent is a meaningful tradition that symbolizes the hope, peace, joy, and love we experience as we await the celebration of Christ’s birth. Each week, we light one candle to represent one of these themes, with the fifth candle, the Christ candle, lit on Christmas Eve to signify the arrival of Jesus, the light of the world. The growing light of the Advent wreath reminds us of the anticipation that built as the Israelites waited for their Savior and how that hope is fulfilled in Christ. As we gather around the wreath, we reflect on God’s promises, His faithfulness, and the transformative power of Christ’s birth in our lives.

Participate in Advent with us by attending one of our Sunday services leading up to Christmas.
