Deacons Are Everywhere...

CPC’s Deacons are called to serve the church and community with compassion and kindness. Their work is primarily done through eight committees. Although the work in each committee differs, each committee seeks the opportunity to share Christ’s love to those they touch during their service.

Deacon Committees

Chancel Stewardship Committee
The Chancel committee prepares the elements for monthly communion. The team meets on Saturday morning of communion weekend (for about an hour) to prepare the elements, and sets up communion for one of CPC’s worship services. [Serve time: about 2 hours per month]

Deacon Fund Committee
The Deacon Fund Committee stewards CPC’s benevolence fund. The committee interacts with those seeking assistance from the fund, considers requests and approves allocations of these funds seeking prayer and discernment for God’s will in this work. [Serve time: about 3 hours per month]

Congregational Support Committee
The Congregational Support committee provides tangible services for members of the CPC community during times of need through a pool of volunteers. The committee arranges for meals following surgery, a birth, or death. It also arranges for occasional transportation to medical appointments or critical errands. The committee also provides encouragement through: holiday baskets given to church family members going through difficult times; baby baskets to new parents; sends cards to those in need of encouragement. [Serve time: about 2 hours per month]

Memorials Committee
The Memorials Committee serves families who have experienced a death in the family by assisting with the coordination of the Memorial Service and a simple reception afterwards. The committee provides greeters, ushers, guest book attendant for the service as needed. They also assist with the setup, serving and cleanup of the reception following the service. [Serve time: about 2 hours per month]

Senior Worship Committee
The Senior Worship Committee brings Christ’s love to area nursing homes by leading regularly scheduled worship services at four local nursing homes. [Serve time: about 3 hours per month]

Prime Time Senior Ministry Committee
The Prime Time Outreach Committee engages with senior attendees of Prime Time and expresses the love of Christ through service, friendship, fellowship and fun! [Serve time: about 3 hours per month]

Serve Day/Outreach Committee
This committee will help coordinate the on-campus Serve Day programs and volunteers. In addition, this committee may help coordinate the annual 54 Hand Project in the spring. This is an opportunity for all deacons to serve together in a one day community event. [Serve time: varies]

Student Deacons
The Student Deacons Committee engages a new group of 5-10 high school students each school year. These students will have the opportunity to experience what it means to serve as the hands and feet of Christ. Students will participate in a deacon fund case, lead one nursing home worship, assist with a memorial, prepare and deliver a meal, visit someone in need of encouragement, and assist with the preparation and administering of communion during their year. [Serve time: about 2 hours per month]
