Deacons Are Everywhere...

CPC’s Deacons are called to serve the church and community with compassion and kindness. Their work is primarily done through eight committees. Although the work in each committee differs, each committee seeks the opportunity to share Christ’s love to those they touch during their service.

Deacon Committees

CONGREGATIONAL SUPPORT: The Congregational Support Committee provides tangible services for members of the CPC community during times of need. Serve times vary by area of service.

These services include:

  • Holiday Gift Baskets to those who have experienced loss and challenge during the year.
  • Baby Baskets to new parents.
  • Oversight of Friendship Callers to those who are isolated and shut-in.
  • Cards to those who have lost a loved one.

CPC SENIORS: The CPC Seniors Committee supports the bi-monthly on-campus ministry to senior citizens who seek fun and fellowship in a loving environment! Deacons help with activities, engage with participants and share the love of Christ. Serve time is two Tuesday mornings/month (9:30-11:30 am or 10:30-12:30 pm) from September-May.

DEACON FUND: The Deacon Fund Committee stewards CPC’s benevolence fund to bless our church family and the Valley in times of need. This committee interacts with those seeking assistance, considers requests, and distributes resources according to a careful process that includes a specific protocol and a prayerful consideration. Serve time is 1-2 hours/month.

MEMORIALS: The Memorials Committee serves families in the church and in the community who have experienced a death by hosting a celebration of life and on-campus reception. The deacons help with set-up & clean up, serve as ushers for the service, and provide hospitality at the reception. Serve time is 2-3 hours/month.

SENIOR WORSHIP COMMITTEE: The Senior Worship Committee brings the love of Christ to four local assisted living and rehabilitation facilities by leading monthly worship and communion service at each one. The deacons are joined by a musically gifted volunteer who provides worship.  The deacons share pre-written messages of hope, serve communion and visit with participants. Serve time is one Sunday afternoon (2:00-4:00 pm)/month.

SERVE DAY/OUTREACH: The Serve Day/Outreach Committee works with CPC’s Mission Ministry to lead on-campus Serve Day projects by overseeing the set-up, coordination, and direction of volunteers. This committee also leads the deacons’ annual 54 Hand Project in the spring. This outreach project provides an opportunity for all the deacons to serve together in the community. Serve time varies: it is focused on September/early fall for Serve Day, and in the spring months for the 54 Hand Project.

SRVUSD SUPPORT: This new committee will support the local school district component of the Neighbor to Neighbor program by assisting in the organization and distribution of Christmas gifts for local students. The committee will also seek other opportunities to support the social workers with food cards and other necessities for students, as well as implement other FOR the Valley projects. Time commitment is seasonal- Late November-Early December, then as needed.

TRINITY CENTER (Walnut Creek) SUPPORT: This committee oversees the provision of a hot breakfast for the homeless every Monday morning and provides for the gathering of clothing. Committee members are assigned one Monday/month and have the responsibility to shop for food and lead a team of volunteers in cooking & serving the homeless. One committee member will have the sole responsibility of seeking clothing donations through quarterly drives at the church and other venues. Serve time is 3 hours/month.
