One Thousand Tents

One Thousand Tents is an effort to provide shelter to some of the 5 million people left homeless in the aftermath of the May 12th earthquake in China.

To put this tragedy in prespective, five million people is the equivalent to 7 times the population of San Francisco suddenly becoming homeless.

China has used its supply of two million tents and is in urgent need of additional tents. Millions of earthquake survivors are currently living in unsheltered camps.

The cost of one tent is $135. You can help by making an online donation of any amount. We also welcome and appreciate entrepreneurial efforts to support this important relief work. Family and neighborhood projects, co-worker support and corporate donations are powerful ways to come together in a time of need.  Thank you!

FAQ

Why did CPC decide to focus on buying tents rather than other relief efforts?
Shelter is the greatest short term need in the areas devastated by the earthquake. We are able to purchase tents that meet the government guidelines and ship them for free to help satisfy this immediate need.

What do the tents look like?  Are they durable and of good quality?
They are large, commercial grade tents capable of sheltering 6-8 people. We have carefully evaluated the Pakistan supplier to ensure the tents meet the government recommended guidelines.

What is the significance of the black symbol in the tent graphic?
It is the Chinese symbol for 1000. It is an interesting ‘coincidence’ that we set a goal to provide 1000 tents, before we knew that the symbol so closely resembles a cross.

What will you do with any funds raised in excess of the $135K?
We will purchase additional tents as there is need for as many tents as we raise funds to buy.

What will you do if you do not raise the $135,000?
We will purchase as many tents as we can based on the total funds raised. A contribution of just $135 buys shelter for 6-8 people.

Who should I contact if I’m interested in making a contribution?
Please make checks payable to CPC and put Tents in the memo section. You can also contribute via credit card on CPC’s website – www.cpcdanville.org
