Lighthouses of Prayer Ministry

What is a lighthouse?
The Lighthouse of Prayer Ministry is a ministry of individuals praying blessings daily into the lives of the people in their neighborhood, workplace, school, or other small community that is part of the praying individual's life. The individuals who participate in this ministry of regular prayer are called "Lighthouses of Prayer", or simply "Lighthouses". The prayer is that as the Lighthouse prays for the people in the neighborhood, workplace, school, etc., those people in the community who do not know God will have their hearts opened to God, will come to know Jesus Christ, confess their sins, ask forgiveness and thereby secure eternal life.

Any Christian can be a lighthouse of prayer! What does the bible say about praying for others?
The Lighthouse of Prayer Ministry falls under the broad category of Prayer Evangelism. Prayer Evangelism is the implementation of 1 Timothy 2: 1-8. We are exhorted to pray for everyone in a region because God wishes all to be saved and know the truth. The truth is that there is one God and one mediator, Jesus Christ, between God and all people, and that Jesus gave himself to ransom all. Paul urges us to lift up holy hands in prayer without anger or disputing.

How does the lighthouse of prayer ministry fit at CPC?
An important outreach ministry of Community Presbyterian Church is the Valley Vision. In the Valley Vision we are called to "be a catalyst to double the percentage of people in the San Ramon Valley who confess Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, are connected to a Christian church and who are contributing to Christ's cause." The Lighthouse of Prayer Ministry directly supports the Valley Vision.

How do I get started
One of the first things to do as a Lighthouse of Prayer is identify your Perimeter of Faith by deciding how many homes in your neighborhood or co-workers or classmates you are willing to commit to pray for on a daily basis. Commit to at least a thirty second or more blessing prayer each day for these specific people. This Perimeter should be large enough to stretch you, but small enough to be manageable.Establish your Perimeter of Faith by conducting one Prayer Walk around your Perimeter of Faith. Walk and ask God to begin breaking down all spiritual resistance to the message of Jesus Christ. Your prayers will affect the spiritual atmosphere and you will see the results as God's light begins to shine, breaking through the darkness. The Holy Spirit will direct your prayers as you regularly ask God's blessing to be poured out. The first prayer walk establishes your Perimeter of Faith as being set apart for God's purposes. Thereafter, prayer walking is strictly optional.

What should I pray about?
As you pray daily you may find the following acronym helps you pray for five important needs:

B.L.E.S.S.
     B:
Body-health, protection, strength
     L: Labor-work, income, security
     E: Emotional-joy, peace, hope
     S: Social-love, marriage, family, friends
     S: Spiritual-Salvation, faith, grace

You might use this acronym five days a week to guide your prayers and then pray about current needs or issues on the other two days. Just START AND KEEP PRAYING! It will make a difference!
