Deacons

Deacons are ordained lay people, who are specifically called and set aside to serve in the ministries of compassion in the church. There are currently 24 deacons in active service on the deacon board. Their responsibilities include:
  • Cards: Sending cards to those who have recently experienced a birth or death in the family.
  • Chancel stewardship: Preparing the bread and juice for Communion each month, for all worship services.
  • Deacon fund: Investigating requests for emergency financial assistance to people in our area, and making arrangements for emergency assistance if it is approved.
  • Friendship calling: Visiting homebound members in their homes
  • Holiday deliveries: Delivering Thanksgiving baskets, and Christmas and Easter flowers, to the bereaved and homebound
  • Home food service: Providing meals to those in need of short-term assistance, such as when someone has returned from the hospital and is too ill to cook

  • Memorials: Providing receptions for families after church memorial services, and assisting during the service
  • Nursing home worship: Providing worship services at a local nursing home
  • Small group liaison: Coordinating with small group leaders in pastoral care issues
  • Tapes: Sending tapes of worship services to those who are homebound
  • Transportation: Providing rides to church or to doctors' appointments for members unable to drive
