Luke for Everyone

Questions for Sermon on September 26-27

Thank you for joining us in our study of Luke. Our prayer is that each of you will follow the weekly readings and join together with others to discuss the questions sent to you each week in this email.  Look for our emails each Monday in preparation for the upcoming sermon the following weekend.

Our hope is that you will see God working in your life and in others around you and you will be able to take your next step in following Jesus.

The Scripture this week is Luke 7: 18-35 and the reading assignment in "Luke for Everyone" is pages 84-88.
Below are the questions for this weeks study. Have a Great Week!

3.  In verses 18-20 we read of John the baptizer questioning whether Jesus is “the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else.”  From the following   passages, review John’s person, teachings, and experience. [Luke 3:1-20; Matthew 11:2] How might these conspire to cause him to question Jesus at this time?

4.   [Vv. 21-23] What do you notice in Jesus’ reply to John’s disciples?

5.   How is the evidence Jesus marshals enhanced by knowing its scriptural background in Isaiah 61:1-3 and Luke 4:1-13?

6.  How did John’s disciples benefit from Jesus’ response to their leader’s assignment to investigate Jesus for themselves?

7.  [Vv. 24-32]  Who else was in the crowd that day?  Addressing the various groups of people, what attitudes and perceptions does Jesus engage?

8.  What circumstances in your life cause you to join in John the baptizers’ doubts  about Jesus?

9.  What evidence from the lives of other people and from Scripture help you gain   perspective on your personal circumstances?

10.  With whom and to what extent do you identify with the people in the crowd that day?

11.  How does this passage further Luke’s purpose for writing his gospel [See Luke 1:4]?   How is this episode helping you?
