Luke for Everyone

Questions for Sermon on
November 28-29

Thank you for joining us in our study of Luke. Our prayer is that each of you will follow the weekly readings and join together with others to discuss the questions sent to you each week in this email.  Look for our emails each Monday in preparation for the upcoming sermon the following weekend. For a PDF (printable) version of the Questions click here.

Our hope is that you will see God working in your life and in others around you and you will be able to take your next step in following Jesus.

The sermon this weekend, November 28th/29th will be on Luke 12:13-21. The reading assignment in Luke for Everyone can be found on pages 150-154. The questions below are to be used for your small group meeting that relates to this sermon

1. How is God changing your life?

2. What did you like to collect as a child? Now?

OBSERVE
3.In the middle of Jesus’ teachings about life in the Kingdom, someone interrupts with a request: “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” And Jesus says, “Who made Me judge or an arbitrator over you?” What do you think Jesus meant by this response?

4. . In response to the man’s plea, Jesus tells a parable. What is the man’s problem? His solution? Why is he a fool?

5. In this parable, Jesus warns against greed, not because it is more destructive than other sins, but because it is more deceptive. How does greed infect our culture and society today? How does it infect our lives?

6. In v. 16, Jesus reminds us that possessions do not give life its meaning. How do you react to the idea that a person’s “life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions?”

7. What kind of response do you think you would have had had you been there when Jesus gave such teaching? What is your response now?

8. What changes would be required for you to be “rich toward God”?

9. What principles can you glean from this parable?

10. Who could you help take their next step in following Jesus?
