Luke for Everyone

Questions for Sermon on
March 6-7

Thank you for joining us in our study of Luke. Our prayer is that each of you will follow the weekly readings and join together with others to discuss the questions sent to you each week in this email.  Look for our emails each Monday in preparation for the upcoming sermon the following weekend. For a PDF (printable) version of the Questions click here.

Our hope is that you will see God working in your life and in others around you and you will be able to take your next step in following Jesus.

The sermon this weekend, March 6th / 7th, will be on Luke 22:31-34, 54-62. The questions below are to be used for your small group meeting that relates to this sermon.

1. How is God changing your life?

2. Describe an event or season which accelerated your interest in following Christ.

OBSERVE
3. List the special discipleship experiences entrusted to Peter by the time of his denial of Christ in Luke 22:54-62.

4.(v. 31) What role does Satan play in Peter’s discipleship?

5. How does Peter’s self understanding (v. 33) compare to Jesus’ understanding of him?

REFLECT
6. Let’s assume that Jesus’ prayers get answered by the Father. In what way is Peter’s three-fold denial of Jesus (vv. 57-60) NOT a contradiction of Jesus’ prayer (v. 32) that “your faith may not fail”?

7. After failure of faith, Peter became a powerful apostle. Judas killed himself. Compare and contrast these two disciples.

8. How was Peter’s understanding of the gospel and his subsequent ministry as an apostle made more powerful because of his failure in this episode?

ACT
9. What’s your next step in following Jesus?
Where have you denied Jesus, or are you now denying Jesus? Are you outside weeping?
Can you hear Jesus’ words of restoration and believe Him for a more powerful future ministry because of past or present failure?

10. Who can you help take a next step in following Jesus? Who do you know now in Peter’s position? How can you love like Jesus in that person’s life?
