Small Groups Ministry

We will begin another All-Church study on February 15. To get the most from this study, get connected with a small group. Many small groups are forming and will meet for just the 5 weeks of the study. Consider a short-term small group. Sign up in the church lobby and in the Courtyard after the worship servcies. You may also contact the Director of Small Group Ministries, Terry Campbell, terry@cpcdanville.org, or 837-5525 x319.

Luke for Everyone

Questions for Sermon on
February 13-14

Thank you for joining us in our study of Luke. Our prayer is that each of you will follow the weekly readings and join together with others to discuss the questions sent to you each week in this email.  Look for our emails each Monday in preparation for the upcoming sermon the following weekend. For a PDF (printable) version of the Questions click here.

Our hope is that you will see God working in your life and in others around you and you will be able to take your next step in following Jesus.

The sermon this weekend, February 13th & 14th, will be on Luke 19: 11-27. The questions below are to be used for your small group meeting that relates to this sermon.

1. How is God changing your life?

2. Tell about a time in your life when a "success" led to a greater opportunity

OBSERVE
3. As Jesus nears Jerusalem, anticipation about the Kingdom of God and Israel's Messiah mounts. What were some of the hopes and expectations associated with that role?

4. In response to this anticipation, Jesus tells a parable. How does the parable speak to the idea that some thought the Kingdom of God would appear at once? What does verse 13 suggest about the role of the servants until the return of the King?

5. Verses 16-19 are the summary of the two who multiplied the kings money. What are the kings words to the servant in verse 17? What does the sudden increase of responsibility say about the king? What does it say about each of the two servants?

6. Verses 20-23 tell the story of the third servant. How did his perception of the king affect his use of the money? What do you think of the kings reply? Was it right? What his expectation fair?

7. Read verse 26. Tell about how you think the following people would respond to that statement:
a) The casual listener
b) Jesus' followers
c) The religious leaders

8. The parable ends (v. 27) with the ultimate judgment of those who oppose the king. How do you understand this? Discuss with one another the tension between a loving and gracious God and final judgment of those who live in opposition to God.

REFLECT
9. Do you view your resources (time, money, skills, etc.) as something God has entrusted to you? If not, how do you understand them?

10. How are you putting your resources to work in a way that benefits God's Kingdom?

11. Read Ephesians 2:10. How does this verse speak to you after studying the parable?

ACT
12. What’s your next step in following Jesus?

13. Who could you help take their next step in following Jesus?
