CARING FOR YOUR AGING FAMILY MEMBER
Dilemmas, Knowledge & Statistics
Wednesday Evenings
April 11, April 18, April 25, May 2

Caring from the heart and keeping a balance is a challenge for most of us with aging parents. CPC will offer a 5-week series on information necessary to empower families in caring for aging family members now or in the future. Making decisions with love and keeping an equilibrium for all the family will be our goal.

Series Director - Linda Fodrini-Johnson

This series will be directed by Linda Fodrini-Johnson, MA, MFT, CMC, and Executive Director of Eldercare Services in Walnut Creek, immediate past President of the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers. Linda was an intern at CPC’s counseling center and she is a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Pleasant Hill.

April 11, 2012 Session #1 - Recognizing Dementia

Knowing the difference between Alzheimer’s and the other dementias. Understanding strokes and other major health issues that affect the entire family. We will look at diagnosis, treatment and services.

April 18, 2012 Session #2 – Legal Tools Necessary

We will have an Elder Law Attorney speak about the legal instruments each family needs in order to make decisions on behalf of another, as well as to prepare for the cost of long term care.

April 25, 2012 Session #3 – Options in Housing

How to choose between home care, assisted living, life care, retirement communities or downsizing. What will insurance pay for, what will the government or VA pay for?

May 2, 2012 Session #4 - Emotional Dilemmas

Will cover the emotional dilemmas families face when they don’t agree on what is the best decision, how to deal with resistance to hiring help or getting a diagnosis. We will also talk about community based resources in the Tri-Valley and all over the country. Long distance caregiving will be touched upon as well.

Cost

$20 for a single person and $30 for a couple or two people from the same family.
